- What ESRI® software do I need?
- Freeance Mobile software works with ArcGIS® Server 9.2 and above.
- Do I need ArcSDE® to run Freeance Mobile?
- No. Freeance Mobile will work with any GIS data published in ArcGIS Server including, shape files, personal geodatabases and ArcSDE. If you are running ArcSDE, Freeance Mobile will work with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or any other database platform supported by ArcSDE. If your data can be displayed in ArcGIS Server software, Freeance Mobile can display it on your smartphone.
- Is the map data loaded onto the smartphone?
- No, Freeance Mobile software requires no GIS data to be loaded onto the smartphone. Freeance Mobile works in a live connected mode. Map images are supplied directly from map servers as small files allowing for quicker transfer of the data.
- What GIS functions can Freeance Mobile software perform?
- Freeance Mobile can perform standard GIS functions on the smartphone. Zoom, pan, search for a map feature and zoom to it, select map features and display attribute values, control layer display, zoom a geocoded address location, zoom to your current GPS location, write GPS location records to databases and more features currently under development.
- Which smartphones can be used with Freeance Mobile software?
- Freeance Mobile software works with Android, iPhone and BlackBerry® smartphones. Smartphones running Android OS 2.1 and above, iOS 3.2 and above and BlackBerry OS 5.0 and above are supported.
- If I'm using a BlackBerry smartphone, do I need the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES)?
- No. Freeance Mobile works with or without the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If you use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Freeance Mobile software may need a few minor configuration changes within the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Do I need to be in cell phone coverage to use my GIS mapping?
- Yes. To view the maps and search databases you need to be in cell phone coverage. However, Freeance Mobile software allows you to capture GPS points with the SmartForms application in a disconnected mode when you are out of cell phone coverage. Freeance Mobile software then sends the records to your database when you return to cell phone coverage.
- How many applications can I build with one license of Freeance Mobile?
- Unlimited. Licensing Freeance Mobile allows your organization to build as many mapping applications, database search and reporting, forms, GPS collection and record editing applications as you need.
- Does Freeance Mobile work with Microsoft .NET?
- No. Freeance Mobile is not a programming platform. Programming in .NET is not required to create Freeance Mobile applications for smartphones. Freeance Mobile is a plug-and-play software solution for building interactive mobile applications for the enterprise.
- Does Freeance Mobile need a new or dedicated server?
- No. Freeance software solutions do not need a dedicated server. Most organizations place Freeance Mobile on an existing GIS server. Freeance Mobile will run on Windows servers that are enabled with Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) or Apache.
- How long does it take to implement Freeance Mobile software?
- Typically, organizations implement Freeance Mobile and deliver applications within weeks of delivery.
Installation of Freeance Mobile, by means of a hassle-free install wizard, only takes minutes to complete. Installation, training, technical consulting and building the first application normally takes approximately 20 hours. - What databases can Freeance Mobile read and write to?
- Freeance Mobile will read and write to most multi-user, Web enabled enterprise databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL and others.
- How accurate is the GPS in the smartphones?
- Field testing of the newer smartphones with embedded GPS technology has yielded positional accuracies of 3 to 5 meters. Freeance Mobile also supports connecting smartphones to most Bluetooth enabled GPS receivers, when higher accuracy is required.

Freeance Mobile runs with the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution. Safeguard the integrity, confidentiality and authenticity of your corporate data with a strong encryption scheme. Data is encrypted while it is in transit between the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and smartphones.
The BlackBerry Enterprise Solution offers two transport encryption options — Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Triple Data Encryption Standard (Triple DES), for all data transmitted between BlackBerry Enterprise Server and smartphones.
